Mindfulness Training Course

Mindfulness Matters

Discover the transformative power of mindfulness with our exclusive 8 week training program, led by our Mind Matters Psychologists with over 6 years of training. Unlike other programs, our course is designed to provide you with evidence-based techniques and personalised guidance from a highly qualified psychologist.

Research has shown that people who are more mindful are generally happier and report less anxiety, symptoms of depression, anger, and worries. A higher degree of mindfulness is also associated with reduced stress and increased gratitude, hope, and vitality.

So if practising mindfulness holds such powerful potential for our wellbeing, why aren’t we all doing it every day?

The reason is that we often need more guidance and support than simply downloading an app.

We need to better understand the underlying processes and research behind mindfulness.

Our Mindfulness Group Workshop is designed to walk you through everything you need to fully understand mindfulness and experience the profound effects it can have on your life.

Meet the Instructor: Psychologist Cherry Kura

Cherry Kura | Psychologist Eastern Suburbs

In Cherry’s own words:

I’m Cherry, a registered psychologist in both Australia and New Zealand. My passion lies in helping people gain a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. Throughout my career, I have witnessed the incredible capacity for people to resolve issues and improve their wellbeing when they are given the time, space, and support to discover tools that work for them.

One of the most transformative tools I’ve seen clients integrate into their personal landscape is mindfulness. This is backed by the sound body of evidence supporting the effectiveness of incorporating mindfulness into various therapeutic modalities to help clients manage mental distress and promote wellbeing.

On a personal level, mindfulness has been an essential tool for cultivating a sense of openness, curiosity, compassion, and nonjudgment toward myself and the human experience as a whole. This practice extends beyond the individual—it allows us to approach others with the same values. By incorporating mindfulness, we can show up as better friends, partners, colleagues and overall, more mindful humans.

I look forward to welcoming you into our 8 week Mindfulness Program to help you infuse the power of mindfulness into your own personal and collective landscape.

FAQ

How long does this program take to complete?

This is an 8 week program that runs at different times across the year.

Weekly from Thursday the 26th of September till Thursday the 14th of November.

What is the format of the Mindfulness Group Workshops?

Our Mindfulness 8 Week Workshop will be delivered in two different formats for your convenience. We have an in-person option and a live online option.

In addition to the sessions themselves, additional practice exercises will happen between sessions in your own time.

How much time do I need to complete the homework exercises? What will that look like?

This training requires about 15–30 minutes a day and is most effective when done at home.

Different types of exercises include formal meditation and more informal daily practices.

I’ve tried mindfulness before and I’m not very good at it. How do I know that this program will be different?

At its core, mindfulness is about starting over again and again. Even if you feel like you’re not making ‘progress,’ if you have patience and try to practice regularly to the best of your ability, your efforts will pay off.

In this program, we’ll approach mindfulness in a way that addresses all of the common stumbling blocks, and you’ll be free to share your specific concerns so we can troubleshoot together.

Are the resources in this workshop based on scientific evidence?

Yes. Over 3,000 peer-reviewed research studies have validated the benefits of mindfulness, and we have made sure that everything in this program is underpinned by rigorous science and references.

Important considerations when commencing mindful practices

Everyone can benefit from mindful awareness practices. The following are some things to consider before you commence mindful practice

    • Many thoughts, feelings and emotions may come up when you are practising. These might include happiness, comfort, calmness, as well as stress, anxiety, fear, panic, or discomfort.
    • Mindful awareness practices help you to be in the present moment. For many people, becoming aware of the present moment may not feel comforting or safe.
    • If there has been abuse or trauma in your life, you can have feelings, thoughts and emotions connected to that experience.
    • You also may feel discomfort in your body when you are practising.
    • Mindful awareness practices need to be repeated and continued to receive the full benefits. It helps to set aside time to practise.
    • Practising mindful awareness requires patience. The benefits don’t come after practising just once. You have to keep exercising your “mindfulness muscle.”
    • Be aware of what you think will happen when you start practising mindful awareness. If you think this practice will change everything or it won’t do anything, your thoughts may affect your experience.

It is always your decision if you want to practise mindful awareness. If you have any further concerns or questions about mindful awareness practice, speak with your health care team.
