Connection

There are two ways we can connect as humans: internally (with ourselves) or externally (with the outside world). This is also referred to as connecting within and without. A balance between these two connections is important for our overall well being and happiness.

Connecting within refers to being in touch with our thoughts, emotions, and inner self. This can involve activities such as mindfulness, meditation, journaling, or self-reflection.

Connecting without refers to connecting with others, the environment, and the wider world. This can involve taking part in social activities, spending time in nature, volunteering, or pursuing interests and hobbies.

Why is connection important?

The concept of connecting within and without emphasises the importance of striking a balance between self-care and self-discovery, and reaching out to others and the world around us. Both connections are crucial for our overall well being and happiness.

There are several reasons why these sorts of connections are important.

Mental Health

Connecting with ourselves and the external world can help improve mental health by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression.

Balance

Mastering this balance of connection can bring balance to our lives and help us feel more fulfilled and satisfied.

Self-awareness

Connecting within helps us gain a deeper understanding of our thoughts, emotions, and motivations, leading to greater self-awareness and personal growth.

Relationships

Connecting without can improve our personal relationships and foster a sense of community, support and belonging.

Empathy

Connecting with others and the wider world can broaden our perspective and foster empathy and understanding.

Ultimately, connection is a fundamental aspect of human life. By cultivating meaningful connections with others and with ourselves, we can improve our quality of life and experience a greater sense of belonging and fulfilment.
